You can mine for Herkimer Diamonds your entire life and never come across one of these extremely rare lollipop scepters. They are the holy Grail of Herkimer Diamond mining. This is a Lollipop Scepter Herkimer Diamond from Treasure Mountain in Little Falls,NY.
There is actually 3 generations of growth required for one of these to form. The 1st generation of growth is is a black carbon is carbon coal mineral called Anthraxolite. The 2nd generation is a thin clear layer of quartz that forms around this this carbon crystal. The tertiary growth of third generation would be the double terminated Herkimer Diamond. These are a marvel of nature the way that they grow requiring very unique circumstances environmentally. This is a good sized one that displays beautifully. On its own the Herkimer Diamond is very nice with high surface luster, sharp form and some beautiful rainbows. There are lots of interesting internal growth marks.
