Early on, salt boxes of different styles were commonly found in kitchens, hung near the stove away from damp areas preventing it from becoming lumpy. This glazed, salt box with a hinged, dry, wooden lid features a nautical scene with a windmill and sailboat decorated in cobalt blue on a white ceramic surface. Conveniently, this salt box can be placed on a counter-top or used as a wall hanging. So many uses.
