These items are hollow, figural ashtrays shaped like a human head, approximately 5.5" in height. These particular 2 are 'hobos'. Most likely from the 1950's. Their key novelty is the smoking mechanism: a lit cigarette is placed in the figure's oversized, often agape mouth (or sometimes at the base), and the cigarette smoke vents dramatically out through holes placed in the figure's nostrils and/or ears. They are generally made of porcelain or ceramic and are colorfully painted. The heads almost always feature comical, exaggerated expressions, which is why they are sometimes also known as "Big Mouths." They are now sought-after by collectors of vintage novelty and tobacciana items.
