This is a vintage Dr. Hampson's Roentgen Radiometer, a fascinating piece of antique medical equipment. A unique find! The radiometer was marketed around 1910-1920 as an improved method for determining x-ray doses. Dosimeters are devices that measure the absorbed dose of ionizing radiation. This was important for early radiology to ensure that patients and operators were not exposed to excessive amounts of radiation. This particular device used a color-metric method, 25 "very carefully graded tints", which involved observing color changes to determine the radiation dose. This radiometer would make a great addition to any collection, offering a glimpse into the past practices of radiology and medical instrumentation. Its historical significance and unique design make it a great piece of history. Condition: Good/great vintage condition. May show signs of wear consistent with age. Size: 3.5" x 5" for the case, 3.25" for the wheel.
