This elegant Opaline bud vase, crafted between 1970 and 1975, was mouth-blown in a single piece with no joints—an impressive feat of craftsmanship. It was created at the artisanal furnace in Murano, Italy, founded by Carlo Moretti and his brother Giovanni in 1958. Carlo Moretti himself designed the piece, which showcases the exceptional skill of Murano’s master glassmakers.
What sets this vase apart is the intricate technique used to create its layered colors. The interior remains opaline white, while the exterior is adorned with sweeping shades of green and purple. To achieve this effect, metal oxides were added after the initial opaline form emerged from the kiln. At the exact moment the oxides began melting and interacting with the white base, the master artisan swiftly began blowing and shaping the vase.
