This is a handsome large early 19th century English mahogany sarcophagus-form tea caddy, dating to around 1820–1840. It features richly figured mahogany veneer and stands on original turned bun feet.
The interior layout includes two lidded tea compartments flanking a central circular well, which would originally have held a glass mixing bowl (now missing). The interior of the lid is finished in polished mahogany rather than velvet or paper, showing fine craftsmanship and excellent preservation.
This is a larger-sized caddy, measuring approximately 14" long x 8.5" high x 7" deep.
Condition:
* One area of veneer appears to have an old repair and a couple of other small veneer losses (all photographed).
* Keyhole escutcheon is missing its original brass plate.
* Bun feet are original and intact; they do turn slightly as the old screws have loosened, but there is no damage to the wood.
* Interior woodwork remains clean and beautifully preserved.
* Please examine all pictures v
