This small, Native American polychrome pot was made by Navajo potter Herman Oliver! Born in Cortez, Colorado, he was raised in Southeast Utah and is part of the largest Native American Tribe, the Diné (meaning "people of the earth" in their own language). His clan is Edgewater, which is also the name of his pottery; the bottom is signed "EDGEWATER DINÉ. All of his etched potteries are done by him, by hand from start to finish, and are all designed and hand-painted freehand. Every piece symbolizes the whole earth and life, and there is meaning in both the painting and etching.
