Began designing after encountering a tailor while in the United States. Selected for the Yale International Mode Festival while attending the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Afterwards, studied under a knit designer in Antwerp and returned to Japan in 2006. Started POESIE in 2007. Began presenting installations at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT's "Newcomers Encountered in Europe" exhibition, ROCKETGALLERY exhibitions, etc. Changed the label name to AKIRA NAKA from the 09S/S season and participated in Tokyo Collection. Received the Best Debutant Award in the same year. With a focus on the richness of textiles and the cut lines that bring them out, the collection is developed with the theme of ready-to-wear that can be worn daily. Combining Nordic and Japanese hand-knitting techniques, couture-like knits are developed every season.
