Striking deep cerise and black painted traditional vintage Japanese Kokeshi Doll with calligraphy and image of what appears to be 2 friends. The Shamei Otome or Akemi Otome is written, which I believe means 'thankful girl or grateful maiden'. The doll is beautiful but sadly not without injury. As you will see, she has a facial blemish and minor marks elsewhere. I've photographed carefully for transparency. I don't want you to be disappointed. To be honest, she's so lovely , I doubt a little age related 'war wound' would detract from her beauty. The image is very unusual. With large head and cylindrical body, she's very traditional.
