All About Reading Level 1 for Dyslexia

All About Reading Level 1 is the first formal reading level in the All About Reading curriculum. It’s designed for children who know their letter sounds but are not yet fluent readers.

What Level 1 Teaches
Level 1 focuses on foundational decoding skills, not guessing or memorizing.
Core skills covered:
Short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u)
Blending sounds into words (c-a-t → cat)
Segmenting words into sounds
Consonant blends (bl, st, cr)
Beginning digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh)
Early sight words (phonetic, decodable ones)
Reading simple sentences and short stories

Who It’s For
Level 1 is appropriate if the child:
Knows most letter sounds
Can identify letters consistently
Is not yet reading confidently
Is guessing based on pictures or first letters
Needs a systematic, explicit approach
