This vintage Japanese Banko ware figurine depicts the Tiger Taming Arhat (Fuhu) seated upon a crouching tiger. The piece is authenticated by the impressed circular maker's mark of the Hozan (宝山) kiln on the base, a specific studio in Yokkaichi known for quality export stoneware.
The sculpture features a complex mold with sgraffito (incised) texturing on the tiger's fur and hand-finished facial details. The robes are finished in a deep, metallic iron-rust glaze (tenmoku style) that contrasts with the unglazed biscuit-fired skin.
