Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 - February 22, 1987) was an American painter, printmaker, and artist, a leading figure in pop art. In the 1950s, after graduating from university, he moved to New York and became known for his advertisements and illustrations in magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. In 1962, he began mass-producing works using silkscreen printing. He also chose popular and topical motifs. Examples of silkscreen motifs include:
