Vintage Portuguese Hand Painted Floral Vase "Mel de Portugal" Cup & Fork Mark

This vase is traditional Portuguese red earthenware (barro vermelho) coated with a white tin glaze (similar to majolica).
- The orange/reddish-brown areas you see (rim, base, and handles) are the natural color of the fired clay showing through where it’s left unglazed or only lightly glazed.
- The glossy white body is the same clay covered with a white engobe and then a clear lead glaze, which is why it looks bright and shiny.
- The painted flowers and the inscription are overglaze enamels fired at a lower temperature afterward.
So it’s 100 % hand-thrown or molded clay (earthenware/terracotta), just decorated in the classic Portuguese style. Very typical of the small family workshops in the Algarve, Coimbra, or Estremoz regions from the 1950s–1980s.
