A Road Map to Writing

Grade 5-7. In this year long writing course, students will learn the five-step writing process through the three areas of writing: narrative, opinion, argumentative, and informational writing. Throughout the writing process, students will learn how to brainstorm using different mind map strategies, graphic organizing skills, and Step Up to Writing methods to guide them through the development of their writing. Students will look at different example mentor texts to understand different styles and techniques of narrative, opinion, argumentative, and informational writing. They will also learn how to peer and self edit their own work, give peer feedback and self-reflect using different rubrics.
