These obsidian needles have an interesting story behind them. They were formed when lava from an ancient volcano solidified rapidly. See the last photo for the complete story.
They were found on one of my family rockhounding excursions in the 1960s. There are different types of obsidian. These are made from Mahogany Obsidian needles, which are black and brown in color, that have been tumbled to smooth the edges. 8mm Mahogany Obsidian beads sit atop each needle, metal filigree bead caps complete the design. With matching Hypo-allergenic ear wires added, they are ready to wear. They measure 3" in length.
Unusual in that they're not often seen, especially in earring form, and are a sure conversation starter.
