The BRIO Switching and Crossing Track is the equivalent of a double crossover switch. That means that the switch can be inserted into a double-track area and the young railroader can use this track piece to move the train between the tracks (cross over) in either direction, or proceed straight on. On a railroad, the double crossover is one of the most complicated pieces of switching built, it is the statement of the art form of the track builder. And, so too, the BRIO wooden toymakers. A very hard-to-find genuine BRIO toy.
