Antique Wilcox Silver Plate Pickle Castor (c. 18701890) Good antique condition.
The Victorian pickle castor by Wilcox Silver Plate Co. is a rare complete survival, featuring industrial precision and artisan hand-finishing.
The clear jar features a "Column and Thumbprint" pattern created using the 19th-century "blown-over" technique. After the glass was removed from the mold, the top was manually ground and fire-polished by a craftsman. This results in an authentic, uneven rimthicker on one sidethat serves as a tactile signature of its handmade origin. Despite this unique character, the lid fits flush, confirming the jar is original to the period.
Manufacturer: Wilcox Silver Plate Co. (Meriden, CT), founded 1865.
Stand: Quadruple silver plate (~11") with Aesthetic Movement fan and scroll details.
Includes original ornate Wilcox bird-claw tongs (~6.5") and a vintage Reed & Barton silver plate serving fork (monogrammed "R") as a useful addition that fits the side prongs.
