The description is “Engraving by Goya, the unfortunate death of Pepe Illo in the plaza of Madrid”. Illo was a famous bullfighter in the late 18th century in Spain. He was gored to death by a bull in 1801. Goya deviated from traditional images of the death of the bull and displayed the death of the fighter. The artist is Villar who am not able to find any information on him. The image consists of 6 tiles mounted on a leather bound board measuring 17”-12”. There are two flaws on the board, one below the lower left tile and one on the lower right corner of the board. Tiles are in very fine condition.
