Content:
This is a compilation of research on Shigehei Nakatsuka (Nakatsukasa), who continued the Shikoku Pilgrimage from the late Edo period to the Taisho era, from his youth throughout his life.
Shigehei Nakatsuka (Nakatsukasa) was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1845 (Koka 2), and after crossing to Shikoku at the age of 22, he continued the pilgrimage and never returned to his hometown until he passed away at the age of 76 in 1922 (Taisho 11), near the end of his 280th pilgrimage. At the age of 42, he began erecting guideposts to commemorate his 88th pilgrimage, and over 230 of these guideposts still exist along the pilgrimage route today.
This book introduces the relics passed down in Shigehei's family home and various documents with abundant photographs, and attempts to extract facts from Shigehei's life from these fragmentary materials.
The author, Eitoku Kiyoyoshi, is the chief priest of Todai Daishido Temple in Niihama City and is famous for his research on pilgrimage stones. He experienced a walking pilgrimage in his mid-20s from May to July 1974 (Showa 49).
